Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke’s Health. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the hospital is the home of the Texas Heart® Institute, a cardiovascular research and education institution founded in 1962 by Denton A. Cooley, MD. The hospital was the first facility in Texas and the Southwest designated a Magnet® hospital for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, receiving the award five consecutive times. Baylor St. Luke’s also has three community emergency centers offering adult and pediatric care for the Greater Houston area.


Responsibilities

Provides the highest level of safety and security by patrolling assigned areas of the CHI St. Luke’s Health System to deter, detect and investigate crime and/or any suspicious activity which could cause harm to individuals or property; effective monitoring of electronic surveillance equipment; effective monitoring of hospital emergency systems and ability to dispatch appropriate personnel via radio.  Provides information and assistance to patients, employees and visitors. He/she writes detailed incident reports, and other reports as required. The position must take and maintain control of disruptive individuals for arrest by local law enforcement.

• Responsible for patrolling assigned areas, on foot or by vehicle, providing service and protection. Detects and investigates any suspicious person(s) or activity, and responds to crimes in progress, crimes that have already occurred, disturbances, accidents, various public service calls, and other miscellaneous incidents 
• Investigates complaints, criminal incidents, suspicious activity and accidents. Prepares detailed written incident reports
• When assigned to dispatch, effectively monitors electronic surveillance equipment to identify any suspicious person(s) or activity and dispatches appropriate personnel to investigate
• Provides general information and assistance to patients, visitors and employees, including safety related escorts as requested
• Collaborates with various hospital department personnel and external agencies to gather and exchange information; promote departmental services provided to the campus community
• Assure proper working order of departmental equipment; notify appropriate personnel when repairs and/or maintenance is necessary
• Screen and intervene as necessary to confront and restrain hostile and abusive persons in a manner necessary to reduce risk of personal injury to patients, visitors or employees, and to minimize the disruption of the hospital operations.

Qualifications
Required:
• High School Diploma/GED
• State of Texas Certified Peace Officer certification
• Valid State of Texas Motor Vehicle Operator
• Three (3) years of experience
