The System Engineer job family has responsibility for infrastructure/technical planning, implementation and support activities for systems owned by the CommonSpirit Health Technology Infrastructure team. Specific responsibilities include installing and supporting system hardware and software, performing system upgrades, and evaluating and installing patches and software updates.  Responsibilities also include operational support activities such as resolving software and hardware related problems, managing backup and recovery activity, administering technology layers, managing monitoring and alerting functions, performing capacity planning and conducting version management. 

System Engineers  work closely with architects, infrastructure support, database administrators and application support teams to ensure seamless and quality IT support for CommonSpirit Health customers and alignment with CommonSpirit Health’s IT standards, controls and governance.

To be successful, individuals must possess a combination of technical, business and leadership skills. This requires an understanding of customers’ business needs, processes, and functions. They also require a solid knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, applications development and support, networks, and computer operations. In addition, individuals working in this job family must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others.

The Senior System Engineer will have a thorough and comprehensive mastery of support platforms/products and environments.  They focus a majority of their time on complex engineering, architectural and implementation tasks. Project assignments are large in scope and highly complex. They assist with evaluation, engineering /design and implementation services for new products, technologies and solutions as well as serve as escalation support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 system engineers.


Responsibilities
  • Provides evaluation, architecture, engineering/design and implementation services for new products, technologies
  • Lead, mentor, and coach other Engineers to build their skills and readiness in technology, portfolio, and
    platform responsibilities.
  • Help establish technology, documentation, and implementation standards for current and future
    deployments.
  • Interpret business and medical requirements into actionable voice technology deliverables.
  • Capable of moving projects forward with minimal supervision or oversight.
  • Personally motivated to learn new technologies, understand organizational challenges and use creative processes to deliver improved services for our patents, staff, and ministry.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% and work varied or non-business hours during implementations.
  • Remote eligible.

Qualifications
  • BA or BS in Computer Science, Technology, or Business discipline or equivalent experience is required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in technology solutions engineering, technical infrastructure
  • 5-7 years of experience in large complex project oversight
  • Established understanding of Infrastructure and relative technologies.
  • Established understanding of network connectivity and protocols.
  • Qualified candidates must possess a combination of business, technical and leadership skills.
  • Candidate must be change advocates and innovators, quick learners, results-oriented, and creators of compelling
    technology roadmaps.
  • Ability to develop and organize written documentation and procedures is required.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in determining work and problem resolution priorities and approaches.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment.
  • Be change advocates and innovators, quick learners, results-oriented, and creators of compelling
    technology roadmaps. Mentoring and influencing others in a matrixed team environment is critical to success.
  • Demonstrated domain specific knowledge in multiple technologies is preferred, including but not limited to:
  • Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Azure Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Software as a Service (SaaS) Application setup and design
  • Public and Private Domain Naming Service (DNS)
  • Active Directory Domain Services
  • Network Core Services (DHCP, DNS, TCP, Printing etc.)
  • Windows/Unix/Linux Operating Systems
  • Storage and SAN Systems
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
  • Virtualization Hypervisors
  • Physical Compute/ Server Hardware
  • Load Balancing
  • Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Cryptography
  • Infrastructure Vulnerability Remediation and Mitigation
  • Demonstrated expertise in the areas of:
  • Enterprise Solutions Architecture and Engineering of complex applications/systems
  • Diagnostics and reverse engineering of complex applications/systems for the purpose of problem resolution.
  • Strong time management and task focused delivery capabilities.
  • Industry certifications a plus MCSE, MCSA, Azure Certified Professional, CISSP)
  • One or more years of experience in the healthcare or medical industry a plus
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and HITECH, Security Privacy plus, and Generally Accepted Privacy Principles
