The posted compensation range of $33.11 - $49.25 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

PRN Days

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) evaluate, plan, and administer treatment for inpatients and outpatients with speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders to restore functional abilities. They contribute to program development, supervise support personnel, and may serve as clinical instructors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Clinical Proficiency:Educating patients/families, recognizing and reporting changes in medical status, maintaining medical records, performing evaluations and treatments with minimal supervision, and efficient patient scheduling.
  • Professional Conduct:Maintaining certifications, attending mandatory training, sharing knowledge, mentoring staff, giving constructive feedback, working overtime as needed, punctuality, fostering cooperative relationships, timely completion of tasks (90%), professional appearance, maintaining confidentiality, accurate charge entry, and participating in quality improvement.
  • Personal Growth:Identifying weaknesses, assisting peers, adapting to change, proactively performing duties, maintaining licensure, and pursuing continuing education.
  • Customer Focus:Actively listening to customer needs, promoting positive relations, maintaining positive interactions with all stakeholders, handling stress effectively, and improving services.
  • Communication:Consistent, effective verbal and written communication, demonstrating understanding of others' input.
  • Compliance & Safety:Adhering to policies, safety procedures (including equipment checks), and maintaining a safe and quiet environment.
  • Service Development:Collaborating on new and expanded service initiatives.

SLPs also perform other duties as assigned by management


Job Requirements

Master’s degree or higher in communication disorders.  No previous experience required; experience in acute care or outpatient services preferred.  Strong CFYs considered if supervision available at time of hire.  VITALSTIM certification preferred.

TN state license required; SLP:TN

GA state license required (if working in GA) SLP:GA

ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence required.  CCC-SLP

Current AHA BLS.

All modalities utilized within the therapy department.  Competence in the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, cognitive/linguistics, and voice; utilization of speaking valves with tracheostomy patients.  May enter secured medication rooms to deliver to access supplies and equipment necessary to carry out core job functions.
