CHI St. Alexius Health is a regional health network with a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services.  CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D. CHI St. Alexius Health offers a comprehensive line of inpatient and outpatient medical services, including: a Level II Trauma Center, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, a fitness and human performance center and ancillary services throughout western and central North Dakota.

Responsibilities

Works under the general supervision of the Clinical Coordinator.  The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individual patient care on a nursing unit according to policies and procedures while maintaining standards of the State Nurse Practice Act.  All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.

Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.

  • Meets the educational needs of patient/family/co-workers utilizing principles of teaching/learning. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Successfully completes the defined job specific competencies, including competencies for age specific, as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education:  Nursing degree from an approved school of nursing.

Licensure: Licensed to practice registered nursing in the state of ND or in a compact state.  Graduate Nurse (G.N.) must practice under the supervision of a registered nurse while the work authorization to practice is valid.

Experience: No previous experience required.

Skills:  Working knowledge of basic clinical skills in delivery of patient care.

Basic Life Support Certification within 480hours of employment and meets recertification as required.

Interpersonal Skills: Good Communication skills necessary because of constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors and medical center staff.

Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, visitors and patients.

Maintains confidentiality.

Physical Effort:  Medium: Sometimes involves a maximum physical effort requirement of 50pounds sometimes. 

Hours of Work: Rotating shift work or straight evenings or nights.  Rotating holidays and weekends may be required.

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Other: Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical and infectious environmental hazards.
