CHI St. Alexius Health is a regional health network with a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services.  CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D. CHI St. Alexius Health offers a comprehensive line of inpatient and outpatient medical services, including: a Level II Trauma Center, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, a fitness and human performance center and ancillary services throughout western and central North Dakota.

Responsibilities

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:   Works under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor.  The housekeeper cleans and maintains assigned areas of the hospital in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition to promote a clean and healthy environment for all employees, patients, and guests in accordance with the Mission and Philosophy of Community Memorial Hospital.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans occupied patient rooms in the following manner: Disinfect and clean on daily basis; Room sinks, counter tops, patient tables, mirrors; Wet and dry mop occupied patient rooms; Bathroom fixtures and floor; Collect and disposes of garbage properly.
  • Activities for cleaning occupied patient rooms on a weekly basis: Moves all movable furniture and cleans under them.  Dust all furniture, shades on windows, ceiling vents, lights in bathroom and patient rooms.  Clean and disinfect patient garbage cans.  Keep all corners free of debris; Replaces needed supplies.
  • Activities for cleaning occupied patient rooms on an as needed basis: Clean ceiling and floor fans; Replace sharps containers; Spot clean walls; Shampoo patient chairs.
  • Activities for cleaning occupied patient rooms on a monthly basis: Clean heating/AC filters; Clean doors and trim; Replace dirty divider curtains with clean ones.
  • Cleans and Disinfects common areas in nursing department: Clean hall handrails on daily basis; Vacuum all carpeted areas on a daily basis; Dust hallway floors daily and wet mops weekly or as needed.
  • Knows isolation procedures: Practices infection control throughout daily activities; Disposes of garbage from isolation rooms properly; Uses a new mop head for each room; Uses color coded cleaning rags properly.
  • Other patient care areas and common areas: Clean and disinfect public bathrooms daily or as needed; Collect and dispose of garbage properly on a daily basis; Dust and wet mops floor daily.
  • Cleans all office areas on a weekly basis: Dust furniture; Dust window shades; Move all movable furniture and clean under it; Wet mop floors and vacuum all carpeted areas.
  • Cleans Clinic on a daily basis in the following manner: Cleans and Disinfects all bathroom fixtures and floors, treatment room floor, sinks in patient rooms; Vacuums all carpeted areas; Collect and disposes of garbage; Collect and disposes of red bag garbage properly.
  • Cleans Clinic on a weekly basis in the following manner: Dust patient rooms and offices; Wet mop office floors or as needed; Replaces needed supplies.

Qualifications

Education:  Literacy - ability to understand and complete written and verbal instructions

Experience:  Experience helpful but not required. 

Skills: Housekeeping skills helpful, pleasant, cheerful personality.  

Interpersonal Skills:  Must have positive and effective skills in dealing with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, providers and other hospital staff.  Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, departments, families, visitors and patients.  Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate behavior consistent with the Benedictine mission statement.  Maintains confidentiality.  Able to respond and perform effectively if an unforeseen or immediate need arises within the department and in stressful situations. 

Physical Effort:   Must be able to move 25 lbs from the floor to waist height and 50 lbs from the floor to the overhead position.  Stands, walks 90-100% of the eight hour shift.  Must be able to work from various heights.  Must be able to move various types of carts with loads up to 100 lbs independently.  Must be able to work outdoors and is exposed to weather conditions.


Hours of Work:   Variable work hours – day or evening shifts.  Weekend work is required and scheduled.
